Activities & Events

Each resident has an individual allocation for leisure at the staffed unit. The common practice appears to be a monthly social event. This popular facility was introduced about 3 years ago and will continue as long as it is requested.

Since the introduction of day trips to the coast about three years ago, the interest and popularity has not waned. Last year, due to demand, two trips were organised, to Brighton and Margate and this year, in July a trip to Margate took place with another planned for the autumn. Over forty residents participated, in this last event and, in the end, most were tired but happy! On these pages are snapshots of the trips over the past two years.

A user’s forum was formed last year with keen participation from all the different units. The CEO, Jim Lim visited the forum and sought agreement for the photos of users to be used in this pictorial autumn report.

A new art activity will commence sometime in September 2006. A users’s survey has identified interest from about fifteen residents, all wishing to dabble in painting, sculpture and visits to local museums.

The project will meet once a week and cater for up to thirty people. It is led by Anna Trattles (Art worker) and Lucy Cierniak (Support Worker) with managerial input from Jean Edmonds.

The project aims to provide purposeful activity to residents, filling their time in a structured way and using art as a medium. It is hoped that interest and the attendant stimulation from this project will help residents better prepare their independence “move-on” strategy.
